George Papaconstantinou
George Papaconstantinou is an economist, holding a Ph.D in Economics from the London School of Economics. He is currently Chairman and Founder of GSP Advisory, focusing on Greek and European political and economic issues as well as on investment opportunities in Greece. He has recently published Game Over – The Inside Story of the Greek Crisis.
He has served as Minister of Finance (2009-2011) and Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change until (2011-2012). As Finance Minister, he played a key role during the Eurozone crisis, negotiating Greece’s loan agreement with the EU and the IMF and instituting policies to reduce the fiscal deficit and restore competitiveness.
Previously, Dr. Papaconstantinou was a Member of the Greek National Parliament (2007-2009) and of the European Parliament (2009). He has worked for ten years as senior economist at the OECD in Paris, has advised the European Commission as well as leading think-tanks, and has served as Board member of OTE S.A., the largest telecommunications company in Greece.
