Petros Efthymiou has worked initially in education and in journalism. He was political editor for the newspaper “To Vima”, head of the radio station TOP FM and editor-in-chief of the journal “Anti”. At the National Television Station (NET) he was responsible for organizing and presenting the political show “Teliki Eftheia” whilst he was the coordinator of the first debate of the 1996 national elections.
In 1998 he was awarded the prize for “Excellency in Journalism”, by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Stefanopoulos. He has served as member of the European parliament, a member of national parliament, Minister of Education and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (O.S.C.E). He has taught journalism as a visiting lecturer at the Panteion University and in 2012-2013 he was a fellow of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs of Harvard University.
